Last March, YGG became the first company to sell the certified Forest Carbon Units from an Icelandic forestry project. The buyers were Íslandsbanki and Deloitte. It should be assumed that the carbon bond behind the units that have been sold has not materialized since the trees went down in the summer of 2022 and are therefore called “pending carbon units”. Keep track of all the carbon units in International Carbon Registryand cannot be used against emissions until the carbon bond has materialized. The first certified carbon units will therefore not be ready against emissions until after about five years.
The acquisition, on the other hand, shows that companies are looking to the future in countermeasures and at the same time supporting them in the construction of employment and knowledge, not least in the more dispersed settlements of the country. YGG's two other forestry projects are now in the certification process and more are expected as the summer progresses. All YGG projects can be viewed here on the website.
